Wise beyond her years

Caid, on occasion, will ask me if different people have diabetes, or when will she not have to have diabetes anymore? It makes me feel so bad for her, but she is asking more out of curiosity rather than feeling sorry for herself. So this past weekend we bought a bag of the candy peach rings and I gave each of the girls two. She asked for more and I told her no because they had too much sugar. She then asked if Jordyn had diabetes and when I told her no, she asked if Jord could eat as much sugar as she wanted. I told her no because it wasn't healthy for anyone to eat a lot of sugar, but Jord doesn't have to worry about getting insulin shots when she eats it.

So later that night when we were driving home we started talking about it again. I told her how lucky she was to have medicine to keep her healthy. She answered "Yeah I have my insulin, and blood sugar, and shots, and my family that loves me." All I could do was smile and keep from crying. That girl melts my heart!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

As with most holidays, Thanksgiving has been a week long celebration for us. We had the Rideout dinner Wednesday night and the Eldredge dinner Thursday night, which made it so nice to not miss out on either and not feel rushed (or overly sick eating two dinners in one day!)

Thursday morning we went to the traditional Rideout extended family bowling. (I won.) The girls loved it. (I won.) They loved being with their cousins, getting to push the ball themselves, and just do something different. Did I mention I beat Zach? :)Micah surprised everyone and showed up with his kids from Vegas. That's part of the reason we've been celebrating all week. These GLUTEN FREE sugar cookies are delicious!! While we were decorating them, Caid was doing the sprinkles and I told her to go easy on them. Without missing a beat, she laughed and said "Duh, mom. I went with my sister in laws and we showed up the time it started and everything we wanted was already gone. People had been lined up since 3:00 on Thanksgiving day instead of eating with their families. We did manage to fill the void so we wouldn't be completely disappointed that we missed out on what we were looking for. 2 stores, 5 hours, McDonald's cheeseburger at 3 in the morning. Made for a good holiday!

She's gone country!

What am I going to do with myself when my kids are too old to play dress up with? They're already getting to the point where we change outfits 10 times before we find one they will leave one on. (This fits weird! I can't stretch my arms! I want a dress, not pants! I want comfy clothes!...so picky! :) ) I found these gems at Kid 2 Kid and couldn't resist!

Disney on Ice

Me and Teisa took the older girls on a date night to Red Robin and Disney on Ice. Caid isn't much into dress up so I didn't even think about having her dress up as a princess so it's a good thing Teisa came through for us and brought an extra dress because Caid would have been the only little girl there not dressed up. I took sooo many pictures and every one Caid is pulling some goofy face or shoving cotton candy in while saying "Cheese!" Teisa's mom said this first picture is like looking at the two of us when we were little. We've been friends since our elementary Barbie playing days and now get to watch our own little girls play!The dang cotton candy cost as much as a ticket to the show! The dumb Mickey ears were attached to the bag so you can't just buy the cotton candy, you get suckered into having to get the souvenir while you're at it.

Good Morning Sweet Cheeks!

This is the lovely morning we woke up to! Time to start safety pinning her pajamas shut. But since she was naked I put her on the potty and she went all by herself! As much trouble as this little girl is, I'm just so grateful every day that she is healthy. A friend of my sister has two daughters, one Caid's age, and the other Jordyn's age. Last week she found out her 19 month old has leukemia and just started chemo. I bawl like a baby every time I read her blog and just want to hold and squeeze my little girls and am so glad that they are healthy enough to be here causing trouble.

Winter Entertainment

The snow has hit. That means hibernation has begun. Curling up by the fire, wrapped in a blanket reading a book and sipping hot chocolate. I wish. With two toddlers, it pretty much means trying to find things to keep them entertained during the time we used to spend playing outside all day. Remember my not so clever idea of buying glowstick necklaces for Halloween? That just means I had 72 extra glowsticks laying around. So, thanks to the clever people on Pinterest, I gave the girls a glow in the dark bath!Having a cozy night in, hot chocolate and Netflix we've hacked from the neighbors. :)So far this next project has created hours of entertainment. I got the idea from my friend's blog (http://somekindofdelicious.blogspot.com/). I got one of the under the bed storage boxes, a 10 pound bag of rice, a 5 pound bag of pinto beans, and a bunch of cheap toys. Caid calls it her sandbox, Jordyn likes dumping it on the floor. But at least it keeps them entertained and with a little vacuuming, the mess is gone!She was sick of me taking pictures.

Caid Quotes

Jordyn has been to timeout twice this morning, once for dumping all the little papers out of the shredder and once for dumping out a box of little elastics (and both times I saw her playing with them and asked her to put them back, only to have her hurry and dump them faster.) While I was cleaning up the mess, Caid said "When I was little I used to dump stuff out. But then I turned back into a sweetheart."

We were driving to Caid's doctor and it is not close, or somewhere we pass often. We've only been to this office twice and they've been a few months ago. As we got over the hill where you can start to see it, she pointed and said "There's my doctors!" I told her she was so smart. She answered "I try."

I was cleaning the house and asked Caid to clean up her shoes, banana peel, and some toys. She gave me a little huff and said "Mom! That list is too extensive!"

Happy Halloween! 2011

I've been putting off posting my Halloween stuff because I have about a million pictures (hey, we're just too fun!) But I guess now that Thanksgiving is quickly approaching, it's time.

We made the annual trek to Gardner Village to see the witches with my friend Crystal and her daughter Livi. Livi was scared of the witches, but Jordyn wouldn't leave them once she found out what a good arm rest their big boobies made!

Zach's work had a party for all the kids so we joined in on the fun. The point was to hit the ball over and there were targets on the other side (a haunted house, ghost, witch) that if you hit them you got a piece of candy. Caid somehow ended up with a piece of candy every time, but never once hit the ball.Jordy dreaming of the day she's old enough to play with the big kidsDecorating sugar cookies. Up until this point I was doing really good at keeping Jordyn off gluten, but as soon as she decorated that cookie, it was straight in her mouth. I decided to let her start eating it again to see how she was and she hasn't had any problems so maybe she was just having a rough week a few weeks ago. And luckily Caid was more interested in decorating than eating it so I was able to talk her into throwing it away instead of having to figure out how to keep her from going into a diabetic coma!

WARD TRUNK OR TREAT

I love trunk or treats! And our Ward goes all out in the decorating and treats. I decided to give out glow in the dark sticks that were attached to necklaces. Seemed like a great idea until we tried to pass them out and they were all stuck together. Luckily I had little glow bracelets too, but no one ended up getting their glow sticks.

My dad walked in and saw my wig and thought it was real. I've done some crazy things to my hair in the past, but never this extreme.Caid had to strike a pose with a leg in the air......and Jordyn had to copy. Except she couldn't quite figure out how to lift her leg without falling over. (And just ignore my daughter in the background with a straw up her nose.)

HALLOWEEN PARADES

What's Halloween without hitting at least one elementary parade? We made up for missing it last year and went to two! We even got dad to go to one of them with us. We went to Cory and Heather's girls parade on Friday and then Jodi and Don's kids on Monday. TRICK OR TREAT!!

Halloween night we had some friends over for soup and breadsticks and then went out trick or treating together. After so many parties before actual Halloween, my girls were sick of their costumes so we pulled out some warmer ones for trick or treating. The weather was great this year and they definitely are naturals at begging for candy. After we'd been thru all of Shenandoah, the rest of the kids we were with were tired and ready for bed, but ours were just getting started. They could have gone all night, but their boring parents were done. And it's a good thing because they got more than enough candy and I am getting sick of eating it all once they are in bed!

Easily Entertained

I don't know who is more easily entertained, though, the kids, or me watching the kids. Lately, Jordyn has found her personality. And I'm incredibly worried for the teenage years! She is hilarious, but trouble!! Jord is into everything and if you say "no," then it's just that much more intriguing. But here's some of the not so troublish things she's decided are pretty fun lately.

As kids, me and my siblings would fight over the heater vents. We loved sitting on them every time they would come on. Jordy has also found this obsession.One of the drawers in the girls dresser broke so I took it out to fix and it's now become their hangout. I asked the girls if they wanted to walk over to see grandma and grandpa and Jord took off running to her bedroom. She came back out and this is what she looked like. She had to have on her heels and mohawk to go visit! Notice the pose when I told her to smile for the camera!
