Bad teeth run in our family. Going to the dentist is bad enough, but to know there is a pretty good chance that there will be some serious issues makes it worse. I've had two root canals in lass than a year. Caidence had two crowns at 3 years old. At that time they used oral sedation and it seemed to work fine. This last month I took the girls in for a check up and they both needed quite a bit of work. We set up an appt for them to use oral sedation and Jordyn went first. She did fine, got a cap and fillings done, but they needed her to come back for round two. Then they tried Caidence. Even with the oral, she screamed and cried and wouldn't let them do anything. They said they'd have to do it under general anesthesia. They told me they'd call me when they knew there was an opening and then I never heard back. About a week later Primary Children's called me to go over pre-registration for both girls. Apparently the dentist office had scheduled both girls and never told me. I moved some things around so we could just get it done and found out we had to check in by 5:45 in the morning and I couldn't bring Trey. So I got up at 4:00 am to feed him, got the kids loaded up, and was out the door by 5:00. We dropped Trey off with Jane (and he cried the entire time because he's a mama's boy) and made it to the hospital. It was still dark and the girls wanted to know why the dentist works in the middle of the night. Caid's surgery was first, at 7:30. She was extremely nervous so they tried to give her versed for anxiety which she freaked out about taking and spit half of it out, even with me and the nurse and the dr holding her to get it in. Then they took her into surgery where they did the gas to get her to sleep and then the I.V. She ended up with 4 crowns and a few fillings. Then they came out to start Jordyn on her meds and she took the versed with no problem and then got so goofy. She was pulling faces at the nurses, snorting at people, faking sleep and snoring, and then she'd start laughing. She was hilarious. They gave her a doll to color and she kept missing the doll with her marker and forgetting what she was doing. As soon as she went in, Caid got done so I sat with her in recovery and she was so mad they wouldn't take out her I.V. I finally got her drinking water so they could take it out. They put on some cartoons and then brought Jordyn in, who was also mad. She had to get another cap and some fillings. I ended up with both of them miserable, wanting to leave, Caid throwing up, but 6 hours later we finally left in the wagon with two new dolls, new blankets, new sippy cups, and some puke buckets that came in handy on the way home.
