This little girl is POTTY TRAINED!! And it was the easiest thing ever! I had decided at the beginning of Summer she was pretty ready and she would go on the potty a lot with out a problem, but I knew we weren't 100% there and I was definitely not wanting to try it with all of our travelling and crazy Summer schedule. I told her when Caid went back to school there were no more diapers. I would ask her, "Are you excited to be potty trained?" and she would say, "No thank you." So when Caid went back to school we were all sick and put it off another week. One day I finally decided to go for it and put her in panties. I told her she had to go on the toilet and she said no. I told her if she did, she'd get m&m's and she said ok. Then I forgot about it. We went to the store and had been grocery shopping and were sitting waiting for a prescription and I picked her up and realized she wasn't wearing a diaper and she was dry! And that was pretty much the extent of my trying to potty train her. Once she knew she got m&m's if she went on the toilet, she was trained.

However, this weekend she had to go pooh and was having a hard time going. After trying and not going, she hopped off the toilet and said she didn't have to go and ran in her room and shut the door. I said, "You better not go pooh in there!" She yelled back immediately, "I will if I want to!!"

She is always saying, "I like your (shoes, purse, shirt...). Where you bought it at?"

Whenever the girls aren't minding and get in trouble, Jord will ask me in the sweetest voice possible, "Mom, please don't yell at me." Or if Caid is in trouble, Jord will say, "Mom, please don't yell at her. She's my best friend." Real hard to get mad after that!

They were doing some of the last filming this weekend for the documentary Sugar Babies and after they were done and cleaning up Caid put on the headphones and was watching me through the camera and interviewing me. She was talking about how "weird" diabetes is and how she has to check her sugar and then I said, "What else do you know about diabetes?" She answered, "We're not talking about diabetes anymore. Now let's talk about fairies."

Caid woke up the other morning and said, "Mom, I just had the best dream. I was having a tea party with all the princesses. And eating toast."

I am the Young Womens volleyball coach in our Ward. We had to go to a Stake clinic the other night and Caid asked why we were going. I told her I was the coach and she asked how I became the coach and I told her they asked me to. She got this confused, disgusted look and said, "Really? They asked you to be a coach?"

I made a spinach shake with strawberries, oranges, banana, apples, and yogurt. I didn't like it because there was too much spinach, but Caid said "It's the best shake any kid could ever have!"

First Day of Preschool September 2012

Caid was so excited to get back to school! She now goes four days a week, three hours a day. Her first week was a short week so we'll see how her first full week goes. We met with her teachers and the nurse and went over her Diabetes plan and they seemed good about it. Her class has a lot of the same kids from her class last year so she already has a lot of friends she knows.

I got her a workbook so she was doing her "homework" the other day and I was so impressed with her writing skills since I never saw her write anything last year. We were doing great until she set her pen down and then couldn't figure out how to hold it again. She's left handed so I couldn't figure out how to show her. Luckily our left handed grandpa was next door so he helped us figure it out. And she already got her first book order. I loved book orders growing up! I remember going through and circling all the books I wanted and then my mom making me narrow it down. I had Caid do the same thing, but once I realized she circled every single book, I went thru and did it myself. But I had to narrow it down quite a bit because I could have ordered almost the whole catalogue. Can't believe this is her last year before Kindergarten!

Sitting at the dinner table, Jordyn started telling my parents a story about going to the bathroom: I squeeeeze (and showing us how she was trying to squeeze it out in the potty) and it not come out so I got diaper on and a big basketball come out!

On her "Fifi" blanket there is a spot with her name embroidered. This is the only spot she she will hold to suck her thumb. She started saying "Where's my abc's?" when looking for her name on it, but it has evolved into her calling it her Seven Seas. She starts panicking and flipping her blanket around looking for her "Seven Seas" and once she finds her name, she grabs it, wraps it through her hand and starts sucking her thumb. The strings are now starting to come out because she holds this part so much. We're trying to get the thumb sucking to stop, but I think the only way that'll happen is if we get rid of Fifi and that blanket can calm her down in any situation so we may have to hold off for a while.

We were over at my parents and Jordyn wanted to see Alex, but Kalee told her he was in the shower. Jord said, "Is Alex bum all soapy?" Kalee told her yes and Jordy answered, "Ewww! I don't want to see!" Then when Alex came upstairs, Jord asked him, "You's bum not soapy anymore?"

Sep. 1 - Back to reality

The whole trip there was this necklace I wanted at the flea market. I never had enough cash while I was there or we'd buy pineapple instead or we'd be on our way to the beach and wouldn't want to carry it so we finally decided we'd stop on our way to the airport. The one time I have money and time to get it, the guy had closed his shop! He was standing right there and all his stuff was set out, but he said he was closed and wouldn't sell it to me!

The Kona airport was amazing! It's all outside, so sitting at your gate, there's birds flying around and the palm trees blowing.

Caid found herself a "purse" in the bathroom that she put her jewelry in and carried around all over the airport. She was even nice enough to get one for her new Asian best friend to carry around.

Besides the necklace, another thing on my Hawaii bucket list was a family picture of us all in front of the beach or palm trees. And not when we were all sandy or wet or dirty. They did take a cute one of us at the luau but Zach was all out of cash after I made him buy our leis. And I don't know why they won't just give them to you anyways since they already had them printed and were just going to throw them away! So we had to settle for a blurry cell phone picture at the airport. Not quite Christmas card worthy.

The girls thought it was pretty neat to be able to walk all the way up to the plane to get on. (Ok I did, too.) I thought that benadryl that almost got confiscated in security would do the trick on our red eye, but instead it made me promise myself to never fly with a two year old again! Of course the plane was full so there were no open seats to let them lay on to sleep. We were on the middle row of 3 seats and Zach was by himself a few rows back. He offered to trade but the girls just happened to want me, dangit. Each seat had an individual tv so the girls wanted to watch shows and wouldn't go to sleep. But they also wouldn't just sit quietly and still and watch a show. After about 3 hours Caid finally fell asleep, but her legs were hanging out in the aisle and her head was on my seat. Jord had her carseat on the other side of me, but was laying on the floor throwing a fit, mostly in the aisle. She finally fell asleep so I pulled her in by my feet. So I had a car seat on one side of me, Caid on the other side and half of my seat, and I couldn't put my feet down because Jord was in the way. When we landed, I suddenly felt sick and beelined it off the plane leaving Zach with the girls and all the stuff and ran straight for the seating area and layed on the ground. I thought I was about to pass out. Once I was finally able to walk and make it to the car, Zach had to go back in and get all our bags from baggage claim. When we got home, I went straight to bed (leaving the girls to fend for themselves) and slept for a few hours. When I woke up, Jord was asleep on her bedroom floor and Caid was playing with toys that were now scattered throughout my previously clean house. I then moved to the couch and fell back to sleep and when I woke up Jord was asleep next to me and Caid was asleep on her top bunk bed. We woke them up after a 3 hour nap and all went to bed an hour later and slept 13 hours. And whatever I was sick with when I got off the plane is still hanging around three days later and I'm miserable! But I'll take it after a week in paradise!!

Aug. 31 - Enjoying our last days in Paradise

There were geckos all over at the condo, but one morning I was out on the balcony reading a book (jealous?) and I looked over to see this little guy right next to me licking up the milk Jordyn had spilled from her breakfast. A couple minutes later he decided enough of the milk and jumped in her bowl for the good stuff!

The last few days the waves were HUGE so we let Zach play himself silly while we played on the beach. Every time we'd get a castle built, the waves would come up higher and wipe it out.

We'd gone this whole trip and still hadn't had a snow cone yet! What kind of tourists are we? And I even skipped the snow cone and got papaya cheesecake frozen yogurt. Delicious!!

Zach actually waited until this night to get his tattoo so while it was still drying, we went to play on the beach at sunset (hence his shirtless model shot below.) Caid wore her favorite FAVORITE shoes and took them off on the rocks. After her and Jordy collided after running around, resulting in a bloody nose, we decided it was time to go, but couldn't find her shoes. She was devastated! The waves had washed them away. Zach decided to go down one last time to look for them and saw them just as a wave washed them back up! They were soaked and full of sand, but she was thrilled. And now after all that, she is complaining that they hurt and are too small. They are so worn out from her wearing them everyday that they aren't even worth hanging onto for Jordyn.

A few years ago I went to Honolulu with some friends and we went to the Polynesian Cultural Center. It was the most amazing part of the trip! I was so excited to get to go to another luau. It was fun. Not amazing. The girls learned the hula and got a painted tattoo.

I made Zach buy us all a real flower lei. By the end of dinner, Jordyn had pulled off all the petals of hers and left them in a pile under her chair. Would I expect anything less of her? Just look at that face!

The girls were so excited to eat the pig. They were pretty disappointed when dinner was over and they still hadn't eaten any. It was just "meat" on their plate.

During the show, Jordyn made best friends with the lady next to us (as she did the entire trip. Everyone knew her name was Jordyn and she was from Utah and Caid introduced herself as Caidence Leah Rideout from Utah the entire time!) She wanted to sit with the lady and then they had a slow song where the couples could dance and instead of the lady dancing with her husband, Jord made her dance with her. My kids are definitely not shy!!
